So what is “calorie shifting”?

Calorie shifting is a method of fat loss which has gained a lot of popularity in recent years. It is based on the premise that the metabolism can be “fooled” by eating from different food groups in a certain pattern. One meal may provide protein and fat only, the next may be almost exclusively carbohydrates.

This is certainly healthier than any diet which excludes a food group entirely, like the Atkins Diet. Though you may exclude carbohydrates in one meal and fat in the next, you still get a good overall balance.

The term “diet” itself creates a faulty mindset. It is a phase, something you do and once you reach your target weight, you don’t do it anymore. What is required to burn fat then maintain at that level is a lifelong change in dietary and exercise habits. Proper nutrition goes a lot deeper than just weight loss. It affects your general health and well-being, energy level, and resistance to disease. Once you have adopted a healthy dietary regimen in order to feel better, weight loss will come with the package.

Starving in order to burn fat is not only unnecessary, it can be harmful to your health. At the very least it will slow the metabolism and sap your energy.

I’ve spent some time in Yahoo Answers over the last few weeks, and one of the questions that is often asked in the weight loss section is: “Do I have to starve to lose weight?” or “Do I have to starve to burn belly fat?” Even more disturbing was the cry for help from one girl, who had lost a few pounds and was scared to death that it was going to come back. She was afraid to eat a decent meal and wasn’t getting the proper nutrition from her diet. Most of the people who answered this plea just said, “No, don’t starve, it’s not good for you.” They didn’t offer any solutions, so I directed her to a free e-book which would educate her on the modern fat burning philosophy.

My New Healthier Of Eating

After reading several reports and e-books about burning fat, I saw that I would have to change my eating habits in order feel better, have more energy and burn fat. Without going into a lot of technical stuff, I want to record here what I eat every day now and briefly, why. My diet is for basic weight loss at this point and is not nearly as rigid as it would be if I was trying to get “ripped abs”, or trying to be a bodybuilder. I lose  two to two and a half pounds of fat every week on this regimen.
